Baldaquin of the Annunciation

14th century
Cathedral of St. Lawrence, Trogir, Croatia

The statues above the front pillars are Gabriel on the left and Mary on the right. The statue in the background is of a bishop, perhaps St. Blaise, the patron saint of the Dalmatian region in which Trogir is located.

The statue in the foreground is of St. Lawrence, identified by his gridiron and martyr's palm. He wears the usual dalmatic the sleeved overgarment worn at mass by deacons and also a "maniple," a band of cloth draped over the left forearm. This was also worn at Mass by deacons and priests.
